This lovely 30 foot Hinckley Sloop, built in 1957 as a Sou’wester Junior at Hinckley’s Boatbuilding yard in Southwest Harbor Maine, is for sale.
Built of wood, with Mahogany planks, oak frames and spars of Sitka spruce, she’s a beautiful, classic coastal cruiser, kicking along at 7 knots in a good breeze under her Nat Wilson Mainsail and an oversized Fortune jib on a Furlex furling and reefing system. She’s also got a dependable 3 cylinder Universal diesel of 21 HP which has been steady since it was installed in the mid-1980s.
Although Andrea is 50 years old, she’s in great shape, everything works, and she doesn’t need any repairs – she’s a turnkey solution to your cruising dreams – and I mean that literally. If you buy her, you can turn the key and motor off without any additional shopping or work. I’ve owned her since 2001, and the previous owner, a friend of my grandfather’s, had her since 1973. For as long as we have owned her, she’s spent every winter under cover and in the water, so her hull is fair and planking and frames have no rot – a lifetime in the coast of Maine’s wood-preserving saltwater ensures that.
Over the last few years, I have done a good bit of work on her. Details, including original specifications documentation and most recent out-of-the-water survey (from 2001) and over 300 pictures, are available on the website. Google "Andrea Hinckley" and click on the ad.
